Event Details

Channel 4 is driven by its traditional values – innovation, new talent, and showing not telling. In addition we have a specific education remit. Now we know the world is changing and in unpredictable ways. Everyone can now create, find and connect in a way they never could before and it is teenagers who are at the forefront of the riptide of digital innovation. Given teenagers’ natural affinity to Channel 4, we are sticking with 14 to 19 year olds as our key education audience.

Channel 4 has to deliver its remit in new ways to stay relevant to the youth cohort, and has to continuously experiment and in new spaces and with new talent. To be successful, we have to develop ideas that reside in their world(s).  That means their social networks, their games, their widgets. We’re working with some of the brilliant progressive people in Education who are also experimenting.

There is a chasm between teenagers and their teachers or parents in terms of how they use media and we think our projects could help bridge that gap. We think that what we are doing has real implications for how we deliver education in the future…
